Managing a Successful Web Site Project

Standard Web Site Project Management Sequence

Once you select and hire your Web team, here's the process you can expect for your site to be built successfully. Over the next 3 Blog entries, I will be showing you the 14 step process. This week we will cover steps 1 and 2:

1. You'll establish the site's purpose and Web site plan. You'll use this workbook to develop all the important materials you need BEFORE even talking to a Web company. These materials will help you:

  • Clearly identify your specific business mission and target audience
  • Choose a domain name
  • Collect your company's brand identity materials (logo, business cards, stationery, etc.) and all images and content components to be included (photos, bios, testimonials, company history, etc.)
  • Outline your competitive situation
  • Jot down sites you like the look of/feel of
  • Check out hosting companies
  • Pencil in a rough site map with number of pages/names of pages
  • Set a budget range

2. You'll interview a few professional Web companies and select the right one.

  • Once you complete the materials in this workbook, you'll be set to talk with professional Web companies.
  • Then, you'll choose one Web company and get started. From this point on, we'll refer to this company as "your Web team."

Next week we will discuss the creation of your Site Requirements Document. Until then have a fun week, C S Wurzberger
