Tips for screening and hiring a great Web Team:
- Plan to interview two or three Web companies for an informed comparison.
- Schedule an initial consultation with each team or representative (this consultation should be free).
- Gather the information you've created through this guide to show them what kind of site you need and want. Also show them examples of your brand elements, such as your logo, fonts, colors, ads, business card, brochure and others.
- Give them a list of sites you like and don't like, and tell them why.
- Ask them the interview questions we've provided and ask to see samples of their work.
- If you like what you find during the interview/consultation, ask them for a proposal in writing, which should include a Site Requirements Document (site blueprints, screen shots, cost, etc. of what the team will do for you). NOTE: A reputable/experienced firm will require a payment for this phase because of the work that's involved, which is fair.)
That's it! The two or three teams should respond by presenting you with terrific proposals, and you should be able to make a comfortable choice.
Once you select and hire your Web team, there is a process you can expect for your site to be built successfully. Next week we will discuss this process. Until then have a fun week, C S Wurzberger
