Excitment, joy and terror

Welcome to the LAUNCHING PAD our blog for new store owners.  My name is Bob Negen and I will be your partner on this great adventure.  Opening a store is equal parts exhilaration, excitement, joy and terror.  We will discuss all of the challenges and opportunities you’re sure to face as you open your doors. Actually, I have opened a number of new stores myself and helped hundreds of other retailers turn their store dream into a store reality.  The goal of this blog is to not only give advice but answer questions and encourage retailers from across the country to chime in with their advice, their experience and their encouragement.  Even more importantly, I will provide some tips on what NOT to do and how to avoid mistakes that cost time, money and energy. Opening a store can be a great ride and I hope as your driving instructor we will have some fun, learn some new skills and arrive safely on opening day. So let’s hear from those of you planning to open new stores, what’s driving you crazy? Bob

opening a new storeI'm thinking of opening a home, gift type store. What information can you give me as far as where do I get all the lists of wholesale compaines that I can buy from. Should I go to a trade show first before I open a store, can I do this? I have an exsisting business that I'm about to sell so I can use my EIN # to go to these shows. I would appreciate any information that you can pass on to me. I'm knew at this, help!
