Hi Everyone, Well, to start, what did everyone think of our June Newsletter on Trends? If you haven't checked your email boxes yet, you might want to stop reading this right now and go check out the latest edition of GHC's Retail Insights to get all the latest on trends for the Summer markets! Or if you aren't on our mailing list, you can check it out here. Now, for today's subject I thought I would discuss the great news that social networks are reigning supreme! As we already know, sites like MySpace and Facebook are all wildly popular sites with millions of users, (and hopefully soon the beloved GHC will be in that category too). Now, MySpace has a new aspiration, to take on the search engine giants such as Yahoo and Google. I find this a high mountain to climb, but nonetheless the next logical step. The reason I bring this up is that MySpace will be launching their new homepage tomorrow! The new homepage will mirror more of the Yahoo approach, a page that people can use as their homepage. I am interested to see how this works out for them, and if you are too you can view the new MySpace homepage tomorrow, and let me know your thoughts. Do you think the social networks can ever beat the Googles of the world? In an article called MySpace: My Portal?, it is noted that MySpace could very well prove to be a great threat to Yahoo, "Already, portals such as Yahoo and Time Warner's AOL (TWX) have lost audiences to social media sites. Instead of communicating with friends chiefly through e-mail, many people now digitally tack messages to friends' profile page "walls" and message boards. "Yahoo's bread and butter are at risk," says Forrester (FORR) analyst Shar VanBoskirk." So being that we are all on a social network currently, what do you think about this? Do you use the GHC to start your day? I know I sure do! Also, I agree with the quote above, I tend to use my social networking abilities to comment, send messages, etc., to communicate with my friends as opposed to email. Who knows maybe social networks can conquer the world? Or at least its web equivalent - Google! Add Comment You must be a registered user to add comments. Register Now or Login |
